National School Lunch Program
Description
The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is a federally assisted meal program operating in more than 94,000 public and nonprofit private schools and residential child care institutions. It provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to more than 29 million children each school day. Established under the National School Lunch Act, signed by President Harry Truman in 1946, the program will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2006.

This data report provides October 2006 (Fiscal Year 2007) enrollment figures, the number of children approved for free/reduced price meals and the % of children approved for free/reduced price meals in Wisconsin public schools. This information is used in the determination of Tier I eligibility for Family Day Care Homes and Summer Food Service Program sites.
