Schools need to provide nutrition program benefits to all eligible persons. Suggestions on incorporating the knowledge and skills of other personnel both inside and outside the school setting are offered.

• Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005 - Dietary Guidelines for Americans are published jointly every 5 years by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA). The Guidelines provide authoritative advice for people two years and older about how good dietary habits can promote health and reduce risk for major chronic diseases. The 2005 edition of the Guidelines was released January 12, 2005.
• Eligibility Manual for School Meals - Federal Policy for Determining and Verifying Eligibility - January 2008 - This document has been updated by USDA to include changes implemented with the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act of 2004
• First Choice: A Purchasing Systems Manual for School Food Service, 2nd Edition USDA with NSFMI, Revised 2002. Reference manual provides child nutrition professionals with a resource to guide procurement procedures. Second edition updates procurement information and integrates food safety information to assist purchaser in establishing procedures to assure receipt of a safe product. Includes steps in purchasing, regulations, market place environment, product movement, bid units, specifications, brand approval, obtaining prices, monitoring cost, product testing, receiving and storage, and purchasing cooperatives. One copy of the Second edition was mailed by USDA to each school/district participating in the Child Nutrition Programs in the fall of 2001. Also available on-line at the NFSMI website.
• Food Buying Guide for Child Nutrition Programs (Revised January 2008) - Replacement pages for latest update can be downloaded and inserted into current Food Buying Guide or download complete publication.

• Quantity Recipes for School Food Service   - The updated recipes from USDA's 1988 Quantity Recipes for School Food Service and the 1995 Tool Kit for Healthy School Meals have been posted to the National Food Service Management Institute's (NFSMI) Website.  These recipes for schools have been edited and reflect the yield changes in the Food Buying Guide for Child Nutrition Programs.  You can download these recipes using Adobe Acrobat Reader in alphabetical order or numerical order. To order the updated USDA recipes for your school district in hard copy with CD use the order form and email it to the address at the bottom of the form.
