Supplemental Educational Services (SES) Parent Page

The State of Wisconsin has posted a draft of the ESEA Flexibility Waiver. If approved by the US Department of Education, this waiver would eliminate the current Supplemental Educational Services (SES) requirement starting Fall 2012. In lieu of the SES requirement, districts would be required to design extended learning opportunities in consultation with parents of eligible students.

The Supplemental Educational Services (SES) program provides parents in low-income families with the option to enroll their child in a tutoring program if the child’s school has not made academic progress as defined by the state. The tutoring sessions can take place in the student’s school, another school, a place in the neighborhood like a community center, or in the home. The cost for the tutoring is paid by the school district with federal Title I funds – there is no cost to the family. This option remains available to parents as long as the school their children would normally attend remains identified for improvement.
