Wisconsin Resources to Expand Early Intervention or Special Education Services into Community Settings for Culturally or Linguistically Diverse Families

Why look for resources: Culturally and Linguistically diverse populations often have resources dedicated specifically to their interests. These resource can be useful to service providers in a number of ways. These resources can be utilized for outreach or provide public awareness to locate infants/toddlers/young children and their families in need of services. The resources can be accessed to provide service providers with information about issues specific to serving a specific family or population. These resources can also provide information about the specific services and activities available for a specific family of the population in general. Key contact people and community leaders can also be identified utilizing these types of resources. Programs, information, and activities identified will also assist in identifying and expanding community settings for culturally and/or linguistically diverse families. Where to look for resources in your community: Information on these resources can be found through a variety of sources. Talking to the diverse families in your program is the most direct method of finding the resources and community settings in which they participate. But there are many other ways of locating these resources. Talk to other providers when seeking resources. Public libraries often have community resource files and publications. Phone books provide lists of many of these resources. The web also provides a wide variety of resources and information.
