Content and LearningMission
The mission of the DPI Content and Learning Team is to enhance the scope and quality of teaching and learning in Wisconsin schools through leadership, innovation, collaboration, communication, and service. Key strategies for accomplishing this mission include:
Public school districts or CESAs who partner with a tribal government are invited to apply for funds for activities related to providing instruction in one or more tribal languages as curricular or co-curricular offerings, such as curriculum design, creation of appropriate assessment instruments, professional development activities, language related activities for parents and community members, instructional delivery, and program evaluation. An administrative hearing on the proposed permanent and emergency rules will be held January 15, 2010, from 2:30 pm-4:00 pm in Room 041, 125 S. Webster Street, Madison, WI. Written testimony may also be submitted by January 22, 2010. For more information on the rules and hearing notice, please visit the departments website. Draft Revisions to WI Model Academic Standards: English Language Arts and Mathematics The National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers are leading an initiative to develop Common Core Standards. Wisconsin is one of 48 states committed to this project. By signing the Memorandum of Understanding, states have agreed to adopt a common set of standards. Drafts of the Common Core Standards are updated periodically. In light of this important national initiative, the Department of Public Instruction posts these draft versions of Wisconsin's standards in English language arts and mathematics for districts and schools. While not finalized, Wisconsin continues to work with the ELA and mathematics standards task forces to review, shape, and respond to state and national draft standards documents. Finalizing of Wisconsin's standards in ELA and mathematics likely will occur in 2010. Simultaneous with the revisions of Wisconsin's standards, DPI will be transforming the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam. The national discussion of common assessments will also likely impact state level assessment. Team Directory
