Art and Design Education-InstructionArt instruction is required for every student each week for the entire year through 6th grade. For grades 7-12 art instruction is required to be offered each year. There are no minimum minutes of instruction specified for any subject area in Wisconsin but 90-100 minutes per week is recommended for art instruction through grade six.
Regular semester or year courses are expected in grades 7-12. Details of required instruction in art and design education are spelled out in Standard L - PI 8.01 (2) (L) which can be found in the appendix of "A Guide to Curriculum Planning in Art Education" available on-line or from DPI publications.
Workshops and resources are available on a variety of instructional methods include Arts PROPEL, Discipline Based Art Education (DBAE), Interdisciplinary Learning, the Design Process, 3-D Learning, Media Literacy, and Distributed Learning. Information about workshops can be obtained by contacting:
