Art and Design Education-InstructionArt instruction is required for every student each week for the entire year through 6th grade. For grades 7-12 art instruction is required to be offered each year. There are no minimum minutes of instruction specified for any subject area in Wisconsin but 90-100 minutes per week is recommended for art instruction through grade six.
Regular semester or year courses are expected in grades 7-12. Details of required instruction in art and design education are spelled out in Standard L - PI 8.01 (2) (L) which can be found in the appendix of "A Guide to Curriculum Planning in Art Education" available on-line or from DPI publications.
Workshops and resources are available on curriculum writing and instructional/assessment methods that were developed by an action research group of Wisconsin art and music teachers. Information about the group and workshops can be obtained by e-mailing Mel Pontious or at the address below. Wisconsin DPI PO Box 7841 Madison WI 53707-7841 608/267-5042, Office 608/266-1965, FAX
