Wisconsin Develops a State Curriculum Guide for Design EducationThe Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction developed a Guide to Curriculum Planning in Design Education. Believed to be the first state curriculum guide for design education in the United States, it includes sections on the design process and four areas of design including objects, environments, information, and event design. This guide is a companion guide to the 1995 Guide to Curriculum Planning in Art Education. That guide outlined four areas of arts education including studio arts, design arts, cultural arts, and visual communication. The new guide will expand on the design arts section of the original guide as well as the visual communication area.
